From the Golden Temple to the world's most powerful waves
I'm Sirigurudev Khalsa, a 27-year-old surf photographer based between Los Angeles and Tokyo. Over the past 5 years, I've dedicated my life to capturing the raw power and beauty of waves across the globe—from the barrel perfection of Teahupoo in Tahiti to the legendary Pipeline in Hawaii, the tropical paradise of Bali and the Mentawais, and the vibrant coasts of California, Portugal, France, Morocco, and the Bahamas.
My journey to surf photography is unconventional. Born Sikh, I spent 6 years at boarding school in India, undergoing rigorous physical training and deep spiritual practices at Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple. I earned my full certification as a teacher of Kundalini Yoga, learning discipline, focus, and the art of being present—skills that now guide me through heavy lineups and critical moments behind the lens.
After three years studying art at Santa Monica College, I apprenticed at a surfboard factory in Torrance, California, mastering the craft of surfboard manufacturing and CAD 3D design. But it was during COVID that everything changed. I spent hours in Malibu shooting with just an iPhone in a waterhousing. When surfers started coming up to me asking to buy photos, I made decent money my first week and realized I'd found my calling.
Five years and about 100 flights later, I can say I've built a very interesting career. While surf photography remains my passion, I've also branched into fashion, food, product, and model photography, working with brands including Billabong, Quiksilver, Bodyglove, Hurley, Roxy, Outerknown, ERL, Hakini Co, Sasakawa Whisky, and Comme des Garçons.
Every wave tells a story. Let me capture yours.
